History

SLC was established by Duncan Wood-Allum in 2009. Prior to SLC, Duncan had a wide-ranging 35-year career within the public, private & third sectors developing a hard-earned reputation for delivering outstanding results and lasting impacts.

He wanted to provide the public sector with support, approaches and advice to optimise the social value and impact they have on communities with ever decreasing resources.

He wanted to disrupt the leisure consultancy sector which was providing tired, off the shelf solutions which prioritised finance over inclusion, exacerbated inequalities and failed to increase participation in those communities that would benefit the most.

Over time SLC has grown into a passionate team of highly qualified, experienced and respected consultants developing a network of peer-to-peer support across the public sector. SLC have supported Sport England in developing national guidance in tackling the very issues the company was established to address. They are committed to applying the principles of a whole system approach to improve the many environments where people engage with leisure, sport, physical activity and wellbeing.

In complex systems it is not unusual for project need to evolve as we learn more about community needs, so alongside our exceptional team, we collaborate with the UK’s leading experts, in areas such as health, inclusion, diversity and equality, design and cost management, asset management, planning, masterplanning and regeneration.

Over 250 major programmes and projects have been successfully delivered since 2009 and SLC now supports over 75 projects per annum. Clients have secured c£300 million of capital funding through our work, saved over £75 million through our procurement support and are delivering 100’s of £Millions in social value.  SLC’s international work includes clients in Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Client feedback has been consistently outstanding.

In response to the global pandemic, increasing health inequalities and continued social injustice, SLC is more determined than ever to use its considerable expertise to support building back fairer; so that an active lifestyle becomes accessible to more of the people who will benefit most. In addition, we are  committed to supporting local good causes and community sports organisations. Examples include mentoring Year 10 students at Oathall Community College in Haywards Heath, supporting a local boxing club in Sussex to assist them in securing funding through Sported and providing pro bono procurement advice to East Grinstead Sports Club in securing a management operating partner.
